Having said that, what about supported devices and jailbreaking 8.4 for the iPhone 6, iPhone 6 Plus, iPad Air 2, iPad mini 3 and older iOS 8-capable devices? The latest version of TaiG does indeed function on all iOS-based devices that’s capable of updated to iOS 8.4 and is able to deliver an untethered jailbreak iOS 8.3 and iOS 8.4 solution. Jailbreak iOS 8.4.1 Untethered Released

While a sizable portion of jailbreakers will be seeking a new solution to jailbreak iOS 8.4 untethered (as well as iOS 8.4.1 - the latest firmware) and, in turn, obtain Cydia (a requirement for obtaining third-party iOS 8 tweaks in today’s jailbreak world), it’s crucial that one of the jailbreak dev teams first achieve root access post iOS 8.1.3. Thankfully, that feat has come to pass and TaiG just released their all-new iOS 8.4 Untethered jailbreak utility, being TaiG version 2.4.3!

Jailbreak Pre iOS 8.4 History - 2015 Jailbreak Update

iOS 8.4 and Cydia

Up until last year, as alluded to above, new utilities on the jailbreak scene were born as the product and hard labor of U.S. and European-based developers, namely those who comprised the evad3rs. Furthermore, until a group who most would consider foreign (Pangu) made their grand entrance into the world of jailbreaking, the public would be lucky to receive two major jailbreaks a year - one for each sufficient iteration of iOS.

However, with their first release, Pangu began to reshape what it means to jailbreak and now, the public is starting to become accustomed to being able to jailbreak the latest version of iOS available, but can Pangu and TaiG keep up?

Ensuing the release of iOS 8, Pangu issued the first iOS 8 jailbreak utility in the form of Pangu8 to jailbreak up to 8.1 before Apple pushed out the company’s minor iOS 8.1.1 release, effectively patching the tool. Shortly thereafter, TaiG promptly inserted themselves into the lives of jailbreakers the world over by releasing a utility capable of jailbreaking not only iOS 8.1.1, but also 8.1.2 which would be released later to rectify a minor ringtone complication.

After having survived the release of iOS 8.1.2, TaiG wasn’t as lucky when it came time for iOS 8.1.3 to bring additional improvements and, in turn, a patch for the vulnerabilities the group employed to jailbreak iOS 8.1.x untethered. Then, in June, when jailbreakers were least expecting it, TaiG issued the team’s second major iteration of their tool to jailbreak iOS 8.3. That essentially brings us up to speed on the recent developments in jailbreaking - while it remains possible to jailbreak iOS 8.1.2 via the older TaiG version 1.2.1 or PP tools, we’re now able to jailbreak 8.1.3, 8.2 or 8.3 utilizing the current TaiG version 2.0 utility.

In addition to supporting the above devices, TaiG operates with the following iterations of iOS 8:

  • iOS 8.2 beta 1 and beta 2
  • iOS 8.1.3, 8.2 & iOS 8.3 to 8.4
  • iOS 8.4.1 - not supported

Ensuing the initial release of the TaiG 2.x utility to jailbreak iOS 8.3, the team updated said utility to version 2.4.3 with full support for iOS 8.4!

We now know that TaiG is a serious contributor to the realm of jailbreaking, releasing the past three major utilities, including the new release for iOS 8.4. Jailbreakers around the globe can once again rejoice, as they’re now able to jailbreak both 8.3 and 8.4 untethered.

However, with the new iOS 8.4.1 release, tensions are beginning to rise amongst new jailbreakers, as we’re currently unable to jailbreak iOS 8.4.1 due to a number of  vulnerability patches on Apple’s part in the latest release.

Update 4 (August 13th - 31st): Although a downgrade from iOS 8.4.1 to iOS 8.4 was previously available in this update on August 13th, Apple has since ceased their signing of iOS 8.4 - i.e. it’s impossible to restore to the firmware. As of this update (August 18th, 2015), it also appears as though TaiG doesn’t intend to release a new jailbreak for 8.4.1, based on their tweets highlighted in the video found above.

Update 6: Pangu has done it! The group successfully achieved an Untethered iOS 8.4.1 jailbreak on the iPhone 6 - Pangu demonstrated their accomplishment at HackPwn 2015 (a security conference). However, as of August 31st, it appears as though the team will wait until iOS 9 before releasing anything; see the above video for additional information.

  1. So, for someone such as myself who downloaded 8.4.1 before even knowing what jailbreaking was, is it too late for me? Can I downgrade my software?

      1. Looks like they stopped signing it (8.4) today. Can you still downgrade if you have the 8.4 IPSW for the proper device on the hard disk or is it too late?

  2. You don’t need to have your iPhone jailbroken in order to have it unlocked. This is a large misconception people have. You can actually have it unlocked for free if you qualify under your iPhones carrier. Or you can use a third party service such as http://www.unlockingofficial.com which unlocks it for you in under a few hours.

  3. In such a scenario, monetary accountancy turn into somewhat incompetent and other
people got here up with unit cost or unit costing.

  4. Greetings to Admins and all…..
As i start my Jail break process ios 8.4 with TaiG 2.x. It says cannot locate itunes. I already have itunes.

    Please help.

    1. Alright for the people who say they jaikbreak software says can’t locate iTunes you will need to downgrade your iTunes to 12.0.1. With this being said you will need to delete everything related to Apple on your computer that goes with iTunes. Then reinstall 12.0.1. After that sync your iPhone with that iTunes firmware. Once you have done that restore you iPhone to default settings. Then turn off find your iPhone. And place you device in airplane mode. then open the tool. Uncheck the second check box. Then start the jailbreak. Every time you phone reboots unlock your device. It helps the tool believe it or not.

  5. I CANNNOT get my damn iPhone 5 to jailbreak! I accidentally upgraded it to 8.4 today (previously jail broken on 7.x) and I’ve run the jailbreak as Admin, I have 10gb’s left on the iPhone and it gets to 60% injecting, reboots and then dies every time. Rebooted machine and device multiple times to no avail. Keeps saying 1101 errors, sometimes at 20% sometimes at 60%, turned off AVG and all other apps.

  6. SUCCESS
After days stuck on the 1101 error I did the following:
    1. Backup my iPad on iTunes (Mac in my case)
    2. Restore of the iPad (also on Mac)
Now before doing anything, initialising the iPad or any setup:
    3. Jailbreak using TaigTaiGJBreak_EN_2300 on Windows (in my case Win 8.1) Jailbreak was successful!
    4. Restore backup (using Mac in my case)

My thanks to Taig and Evasi0n
    Owbewan
