Jailbroken iPhone 5 Versus Rooted Samsung Galaxy S4

Samsung Galaxy S4 versus Jailbroken iPhone 5 (Running iOS 6.1.2)
Galaxy S4 vs iPhone 5
Amidst our various reports regarding evasion, 6.1.3, iOS 7 and jailbreaking in general, the staff of Evasion Jailbreak has decided to take a closer look at the iPhone 5’s newest rival: the Samsung Galaxy S4. The iPhone 5 owners who have mistakenly updated to iOS 6.1.3 or even 6.1.4 and are regrettably stuck on the firmware without the hope of jailbreaking, have undeniably considered switching to Android. For those of you who are contemplating switching from iOS and the iPhone to an Android phone like the Galaxy S4, we’re taking the ultimate plunge and comparing the two head-to-head. Prior to this comparison though, it’s important to mention that the iPhone 5 we used is jailbroken on 6.1.2 and the Galaxy S4 is rooted (the Android equivalent of jailbreaking).

Samsung Galaxy S4 vs iPhone 5

First, in a somewhat unorthodox way to start a comparison article, we felt the need to give our summary in the introduction. Similar to iCrackUriDevice’s analysis, which is embedded below, our experts feel that, while the iPhone is simple, effective, clean and great for accomplishing tasks quickly, Android (specifically the Galaxy S4), is fantastic for tinkering and modifying.

Although one could easily jailbreak his or her iPhone 5 to achieve powerful customization options, provided it’s on 6.1.2 or an earlier version of iOS 6, Android is a completely different beast when it comes to freedom and customization. For example, a simple visit to the Google Play Store can result in the replacement of the stock messaging app, a customized keyboard or even a complete graphical overhaul, allowing users to ditch the TouchWiz skin that Samsung customarily wraps stock Android in.

While we felt that Samsung’s TouchWiz interface significantly impedes the timely completion of various tasks, as mentioned above, users can opt to completely replace it using a simple tool like Nova Launcher and a stock Android Jellybean theme. However, the iPhone 5 is, simply put, a perfect machine when it comes to efficiency. Things just work on the iPhone 5, sending emails and/0r text messages, checking Facebook, sending a Tweet and taking pictures are all tasks that can be completed on the iPhone noticeably faster than on the Galaxy S4.

In spite of the S4’s snappy quad-core processor and 2GB of RAM, the simplistic interface and fluid transitions of the iPhone empowered us to accomplish tasks in a more timely manner.  Additionally, while it may seem somewhat minor, the lack of a unified local app search method on Android also hinders productivity if you have a plethora of apps installed and want to access them quickly.

As far as specifications are concerned, the Galaxy S4 easily outshines the iPhone 5, but that doesn’t necessarily equate to better performance. Although both phones performed on-par with one another, as mentioned above, it’s simpler and easier to accomplish tasks on the iPhone. Unfortunately, due to Android, the S4 can feel sluggish, unresponsive and glitchy at times. It is however, a rare occurrence and that is a huge step up for Samsung from the Galaxy S3.

Now, it’s time to go over a problem that’s plagued Android devices for years: fragmentation. While the Galaxy S4 doesn’t suffer from fragmentation in the typical sense, as it ships with the latest version of Android as of writing this article (4.2.2), it is affected by app fragmentation. Developers often have to accommodate a large number of devices and quality is lost and apps simply aren’t as polished as their iOS counterparts. However, that being said, there are a number of apps on the Google Play Store that run beautifully on the Galaxy S4.

As for additional strong points of the S4, NFC (near field communication) really stands out. The ability to program select NFC tags to change and alter settings simply by tapping them against the back of the phone is arguably the coolest NFC application for Android devices. Furthermore, the S4’s 1920-by-1080 super AMOLED display with 441 pixels per inch is certainly the phone’s main attraction - after all, it’s gorgeous.

Finally, let’s discuss build quality. Although the polycarbinate plastic that makes up the Galaxy S4’s shell is bearable and the option to add a micro SD card to expand the device’s storage is a welcomed addition, nothing can compete with the iPhone’s aluminum and glass design.

In conclusion, both phones are great, just different and people will be attracted to either device for different reasons. hey there and thank you for your info – I’ve definitely picked up anything new from right here. I did however expertise a few technical points using this site, as I experienced to reload the site many times previous to I could get it to load properly. I had been wondering if your web host is OK? Not that I am complaining, but slow loading instances times will very frequently affect your placement in google and could damage your quality score if advertising and marketing with Adwords. Anyway I’m adding this RSS to my email and could look out for much more of your respective intriguing content. Make sure you update this again soon.

To those who says Android is for techs and iPhone is for everyone else … I never heard something so laughable in my life. iOS is what businesses use, Android are what poor and cheap people use. 90% of Android users have phones that are $100 or less. They don’t buy Android for superior quality, it’s all about the cost. Yeah tech people are gonna go with the OS that gets the most malware. They’re gonna go with the OS that has the most security issues. They’re gonna choose the most fragmented mobile OS and they’re gonna choose OS that’s the least stable. Makes perfect sense. I love people online who lie about their careers and claim to have had an iPhone and switched to Android. 88% of iPhone users buy another iPhone. That’s a proven fact and yet almost all Android fanboys claim to have had an iPhone and switched. Funny how that is because it’s unrealistic. 90% of Android users can’t be former iPhone users if 88% of iPhone users keep buying iPhones.

    • Nikki says:

Your comment is the thing that is laughable. Not only “cheap people” have android. Smart people actually do. And don’t talk to me about the cost. Mine would’ve been €500 . We can customize, download and do whatever we want with our android phones, not to mention the SD card you can put in your phone. I have had an iPhone and even jailbroken is before. I liked my iPhone but it isn’t by far as useful as the Samsung Galaxy S4 I own now. iPhone is just expensive because of its name, there’s not much more to it. The processor of most android phones are better as well. Most people DO switch to Android, I know many, many people like that. Sure, some stick with iPhone, because they like iOS. That’s fine. I liked my iPhone when I had it. But I will never go back to one.

Here’s my 2 bob worth on Samsung vs iPhone. I’m local I.t support and its my job to configure employees phones so they can receive emails and instal lync on their phons so they are always in touch. Now the distribution of Samsung s3 And iPhone 4S is roughly 50/50. Both are easy to set up on exchange server and active sync. Same as lync. Nice and easy. However. In the course of 12 months around 30 -60% of the samsungs have been returned due to a plethora of issues. Most common is device failure, device no longer charges, screen dies, or endless re-reboot cycle after receiving an ota update. Occasional several devices have come in wit virus’ and malware. None of the device are jail broken or rooted. To date not a single iPhone has been returned. The iPhones just work. They seem to have a higher quality of build than the samsungs. I have advised the users of samsungs and indeed all android devices to ensure they have an up to date antivirus and anti spy/malware package installed on their phones. As the android devices are extremely dangerous just like an unprotected computer. Thankfully there have been no instances of virus or malware on non jail broken iPhones.

I was curious if you ever considered changing the layout of your blog? Its very well written; I love what youve got to say. But maybe you could a little more in the way of content so people could connect with it better. Youve got an awful lot of text for only having 1 or 2 images. Maybe you could space it out better?

  5. Ghost says:

iPhones are build in batteries Galaxies removable batteries Xperia build in and removable batteries So if talking about OS jailbreaking both are the same JUST STOP ARGUING PPL But none can make Hologram Phones so STFU!

When Apple released the iPhone we rejoiced a phone that was user friendly and it just worked, this was a far from the junk that was forced upon us for years. We now have plenty of “smart” phones to choose from. The question is are we now being fed again on phones that just dont cut it. I am considering an upgrade from my iPhone 4 to Samsung but being bitten many time before I will tread lightly. One last question I was watching someone on a Samsung the other day and it seemed they clicked through 6 complicated screens before finding the app the needed is this correct?

    • reader says:

Im very happy with my S4 and switching between the screens…well you dont do it on your Iphone right? The Junk nowadays is apple, just think about it. apple sells products wich are at release already yr old from the technological point. At the beginning was everything fiine with apple but now…. well, the apple costs his money for no reason.

to those who are samsung galaxy lovers, I don’t have anything wrong to say, I believe samsung galaxy is a powerfull device, but I invite you to try the capabilities of jailbroken iphone 5. I know you’ll think differently, am talking Auxo, Velox, Mail enhancer, appcake, vshare, ifile, winterboark, activator, barrel, bigiffy blurriedNCBackground, iconclasm, and those are only some of the ones I know.

  11. Nanci says:

I just left the Galaxay S3 for the iPhone 5 and love it! My husband has my Galaxy, it is easierand bigger for him to use and understand as he has never had a smart phone before and that was his first. Now I wish I had put him on an iPhone as he resists change! I had left the iPhone to go to the Android and thought it was the COOLEST and easiest for about a year. Try rooting a phone…it takes a long time to figure it out! There are definitely some good things about Android that I do miss, but I went back to iOS about 3 months ago and I am staying here. Oh…I am one that is stuck on 6.1.3 and no Jailbreak, but hey-I will wait till iOS 7 comes out. Everything else I own is Mac and the syncrination is great…BUT I use Google for my email and my calendar (I don’t like iCal). So you can integrate Google items with iOS and life is good!

    • Davide gi says:

Well, I feel that iphone is for the “non-techs” I just finished jailbreakinwho an ipod touch 4g and an Iphone5 and you know what rooting an android its as easy as going to settings checking usb debugging going to your pc and using a software like superoneclick or srsroot. no more than 2 minutes. NO DAMN SHSH FILES. NO downloading .IPSW which are almost a whole gig. FASTER and easier than apple I’m GLAD i made he switch to ANDROID

  12. Vahid360 says:

Do you agree whit me!? Android devices is beter than iDevices! Because all of them have root access … But what about us? We should wiat for some sons of bitches to release ¡0§ 6.1.3 jialbræk …

    • Vahid360 says:

Are better than … Sorry im iranian

    • YoungOck says:

This is for “VAHID360″ You should wait for soe sons of bitches? These fuckin people waste the hard time to make a jailbreak for ignorant fuckin assholes like you. If you think there such “sons of bitches” then why do you use the utilities that they spend there hard time making. Make yourself a fuckin jailbreak and then you have the right to fuckin complain like a little fuckin girl.

  13. Gallifrean says:

Does Samsung support older devices at all? Does Google? I’m asking out of genuine interest, not assumption. I have been an apple user since 1984 but I’m no longer exclusively loyal to Apple. I’m very seriously considering making the switch to Android, especially for lack of important features available to Me on my iPhone. If I get an S4, though. I am worried That I will be stuck on the current OS forever (aside from maybe flashing roms, which I’m wary of), and I won’t have support when things break down. Seems like with android you have to find a message board or a friend, like with windows. You can’t call Samsung or walk into a Samsung store (except the few ones they have built To copy apple). I’m simply tryin to get an objective comparison on these things. Can I get objective responses?

    • SuperIKe says:

Gallifrean, I did the switch last year from my old trusty iPhone 3GS (that I had jailbroken) to a Samsung Galaxy S3. In terms of support: regular ROMs updates are published by the manufacturers, about 3 times a year. The Galaxy advises you when there is a new one available, again it’s all very much similar to iOS updates. I like the fact that you can always go back to a previous version if you want, which Apple won’t let you do once updated. So I haven’t found the support aspect is more complicated for Android and frankly I haven’t any major issues at all with the Galaxy. Now, let me be objective here: if you haven’t jailbroken your iPhone, and you couldn’t care less about customizing your phone and are happy with the stock stuff, I am not sure switching to Android is worth the effort for you. But if you like to use your phone to maximum potential, and don’t like Apple constraining your possibilities, using Android makes everything much more simple. Android is hacker friendly and it was much easier for me to root and totally replace the Samsung ROM with the excellent CyangenMod ROM for example. Apple iOS is very good in stock form, no argument about it, but personally I’m not going back to Apple, I’m enjoying the freedom allowed by Android too much.

    • Keyur says:

Stick with apple bc their ios releases are universal to their products. Android if you get a nexus phone you’ll get the same type of updates. Now galaxy s4 is coming out with nexus version where android updates are pushed when Google updates the android os.

  14. Nishant says:

Guys don demoralise my supporting lines ” IF YOU DONT HAVE A APPLE THEN YOU DONT HAVE AN APPLE” Think it deeply …cheers apple users

  15. InGSuarez says:

Impossible to compare an iPhone with a Galaxy S3.    The Galaxy S3 is the most beautiful machine, fast, functional, beautiful screen, your camera gives you beautiful photos.   The iPhone already is just an expensive piece of crap. I have iphone and GS3. i love my GS3.

    • Evasion Admin says:

This is the Galaxy S4, not the S3. Why are you even on an Apple-oriented site if you think the iPhone is “an expensive piece of crap”?

      • Razzak says:

Lol you are so right. All the android lovers please refrain from posting comments about how horrible the idevices are and how amazing android is this is an apple oriented site and if you decide to be a little troll on this site then just leave immediately we all have our opinions. Go to like androidrooting101.com or something.

  16. zaki says:

S4 vs iPhone 5 most stupid comparison..too far away.this is about technologies not just brand with nothing at all..

  17. MYNUTSINYOURMOUTH says:

The reason apple stopped supporting the older models is because apple products work to good and the fact that there operating system always is updating. It’s funny how if you buy the latest android today that next week when they come out with a new version “Ie jellybean to Icecream sandwich” your stuck with that operating system so regardless you have to buy a new phone to get a new OS. In apples case with the 3G and 3GS no longer being supported is that the phone has been out since 2008 and many still work. So to have a iphone for 5 plus years and they finally decide to stop supporting it was probably a good idea since many new features and apps are much bigger memory and battery hogs. So if they would allow the 3GS to be updated to 6.0+ you would be complaining that your phone is slow and battery dosent last. In that same 5 year period android has release many different version of there OS and many android phones purchased last year wont get a new version on there OS and your stuck buying a new phone anyway. So again MYNUTSINYOURMOUTH SAYS STOP COMPLAINING both are good systems and deal with it. Neither one is going away any time soon

    • StarWalker says:

I guess you don’t know anything about android. 1. Even if your phone comes with one version of android os, there are developer out there that have created ROMs that you can upgrade the phone to the latest os. 2. You have the ability to root the phone in only a couple of weeks and not months like the iOS os if you can at all. 3. Most android phones have the ability to increase storage via microSD slot. Hmmm I hear crickets chirping for the iPhone 4. There are more android phones out there, if memory serve me andriod 75% share to iPhone 17% share. 5. So in conclusion, if iPhone is so great why can’t you customize it without jail breaking and why does apple have only 17% of the market

      • jeff says:

        1. Great 2. Jailbreak is a one click process. The developers are doing all the hard work for you and they package it beautifully so you have to do practically no work. 3. That’s nice. 4. Yeah, and a large chunk of those Android users are users of those really old phones which can only run on Gingerbread. In other words it’s not 75% S4 users and 17% iPhone users. The 75% includes random phones with odd tailored versions of Android. 5. Most people don’t need customization. Power users just prefer the extra power that jailbreaking can provide, free of cost. If the S4 is so great why do people root Android? Same question. Apple has a smaller percent of the market because it doesn’t release a ton of different models and focuses on one for each product at a time.

  18. LuisReyes says:

There should be no reason to get on an apple fan site if you’re not an apple fan. Can’t control how people think though of course. Sad part is, as an apple user, I can probably still teach android users more about their own device than they can my apple device.

  19. Imran Hasnee says:

I was apple loyalist from last many years, now I am using iPhone 5, just witched from iPhone 3G, the way apple try to monopolize its product, and the way apple stop the support to its 3G phone, the way Whatsapp and other addictive applications support denied for old phones is the cause of apple’s decline of sales by 12%. And I am very happy for this, as they are paying the price for their monopolization, and specially making old phones obsolete, .. Apple you deserve this decline of sales…. and more in the future yet to come, as Android is taking up because of its flexibility

    • Techguru says:

Please dont take this the wrong way. I dont mean sound ignorant towards your comment. I to used to think apple was creating a monoploy, until my college profressor and I did research on this issue. Do u understand the word monopolized. Considering that apple isn’t the only cellphone, music player, or computer system the term monopolize doesn’t work to well in there case. They are no where near being the only cell phone, computer, or music product out there. Up until late 90s and early 2000s Microsoft had almost 90 percent of computer in the United States and because of the iMac it gave Apple new life. Then with the creation of the iPod they slowly started to become a major force in the technogy world. But even with the massive growth in the last 10 years aren’t even close to being considered a monopoly. The only reason they have over a billion dollars cash at hand is they didn’t let other companies dictate how they did business. The same reason they are successful today is the same reason the almost went out of business 15 or 20 years ago. Instead of adapting to other company’s practices like Microsoft did, they choose to have total control over there products and made companies adapt to there way of doing things. Again sorry if I sound demeaning towards you.

      • huh? says:

Wow, long comment. You totally missed the point of Hasnee’s comment though. He’s not using “monopolize” the way you are. Go ask your professor to read it for you.

      • Belle says:

You’re right. Apple doesn’t use other companies to operate/run their system. Andriod? naaah, i just won’t talk about it. I have both Samsung SG and Apple iphone but nothing beats the Iphone.

  20. StarWalker says:

I’ll take an android device over iOS device anyway.

    • Daniel Johnson says:

Then why do u still look at this site? It’s obvious that you hate iOS!!!

      • StarWalker says:

I have an iPad 4 and the only reason I have one is because my Chinese girlfriend has one. Android device are more customizable and don’t have to be rooted to do the most simple things like changing wallpaper automatically and the ad blockers actually work unlike the one on the iPad. I agree with the poster above the I whatever is a over price piece of crap.

        • Ca says:

Hostile.!!! I don’t k know what it is a bout apple. Maybe it’s a combination of elegant design, being able to download songs from pandora, downloading any app (etc.). Or maybe it’s the potintial and consistency of its os. Face it android users. Some apps don’t work, random crashes, and that horrible battery make a mess of plastic.

          • Peter says:

I am goinng to tell you something shocking. Polycarbonate is harder, more flexible, stronger and more durable than aluminium. Anyway, apps crashing and such dont matter to me because I am using a nexus device, and most apps are developed on nexus devices. I still have to find an app that crashes. And if you want to compare android vs ios, dont take the galaxy series for android. but a nexus instead. My iPhone 5 (yes I have both.) crashes just as often as my Android device. You can not tell me that iOS never laggs or stutters. It does. Get over it. I prefer Android over iOS because I can do what I want. iOS even with jailbreak is very limited.. But I still like both and what I like more about iOS is indeed the more polished apps for it. But thats it.
