Apple Releases 8.1.2, Can I Jailbreak 8.1.2 Via TaiG, Should I Update?

Jailbreak iOS 8.1.2

Apple Releases 8.1.2, Is it Possible to Jailbreak 8.1.2 and Should I Update? - Today, in a surprise release, without having first entered iOS developer beta form, Apple issued iOS 8.1.2 (the second incremental 8.1.x update, of course succeeding 8.1.1) to the general public. As of now, unlike its predecessor, 8.1.2 cannot be jailbroken by way of either TaiG, being the latest 8.1.1 Untethered jailbreak or the older Pangu for iOS 8 through 8.1 utility, which was patched when Apple released 8.1.1. However, in light of the fact that it’s not currently possible to jailbreak 8.1.2, today’s news isn’t all bad for jailbreakers - we’ll elaborate on that shortly. As with past iOS 8 updates, in addition to being available via Apple’s iOS over-the-air (more commonly referred to as OTA for short) update ability, 8.1.2 can be downloaded, and fully installed, directly through iTunes. However, its absolutely critical that current iOS 8 through 8.1.1 jailbreak users avoid the latest firmware at all costs! Again, as alluded to above, being the second minor release since the company issued 8.1, the latest 8.1.2 update is just that, a minor release. In light of that fact, although it’s too early to state for certain, a number of vulnerabilities exploited in the TaiG jailbreak for 8.1.1 appear to remain unpatched in iOS 8.1.2. However, without an update to the utility, and more extensive testing to know for certain which of said vulnerabilities were addressed in 8.1.2, or more likely not addressed, it’s not possible for any device to jailbreak 8.1.2 when utilizing the latest TaiG jailbreak utility. Continue reading past the break for additional information concerning TaiG and how 8.1.2 plays into the latest jailbreak!

iOS 8.1.2 Released - Is It Possible To Jailbreak 8.1.2 Untethered With TaiG?

Jailbreak iOS 8.1.2
As suggested by iOS 8.1.2’s own release notes, the firmware simply addresses a minor bug that was reportedly causing complications with ringtones purchased on a device through the iTunes Store. Seriously, that’s it, performance updates, other improvements and additional features are out of the question.

For that reason, iOS 8.1.2 is no more stable than 8.1.1, the negligible bug that prompted iOS 8.1.2’s release doesn’t justify the loss of one’s jailbreak - at least not right now.

iOS 8 Jailbreakers Should Avoid 8.1.2, As A TaiG Jailbreak Isn’t Available!

TaiG Jailbreak 8.1.2 iOS
While iOS 8.1 added a number of welcomed improvements, including Apple Pay support for the iPhone 6 Plus and iPhone 6, SMS forwarding that enabled Macs running OS X Yosemite and iPads to send and receive SMS and MMS messages remotely from an iPhone, Instant Hotspot tethering and iCloud Photo Library beta, and iOS 8.1.1 improved the performance of the older iPhone 4S and iPad 2, the same cannot be said for 8.1.2.

Hypothetically speaking, if one were to update their jailbroken device via iTunes, as of writing this article, it would result in the instant loss of said device’s jailbreak, making it virtually impossible to jailbreak past 8.1.1 until a new utility is issued. And, speaking of a new utility, seeing as it’s been confirmed that, at the very least, the main kernel exploit utilized by TaiG to jailbreak 8.1.1 remains unpatched in 8.1.2, it’s very likely that the team will update their utility for support with today’s iOS 8.1.2 firmware.

Having said that, as stated above, if your iPhone, iPad or iPod touch is currently jailbroken on 8.0.x or 8.1.x, avoid updating to 8.1.2 like the plague until such a time that the update has been successfully jailbroken.

What’s Next For Jailbreaking Now That 8.1.2 Is Available?
8.1.2 Jailbreak TaiG

Let’s briefly discuss what’s next for jailbreaking now that the new 8.1.2 has been issued and whether TaiG will update their utility to jailbreak iOS 8.1.2. There’s no denying that this has been an exceptional time for jailbreakers, with iOS 8 through 8.1 first having been jailbroken by Pangu, followed by the all-new TaiG team’s 8.1.1 jailbreak utility, but are there plans to update either of such tools to jailbreak 8.1.2 and beyond?

Thankfully, the answer is an incredible “yes”! As loosely translated from a statement recently made by the TaiG team themselves: “we will try to give you surprises in every subsequent iOS public release”. That statement, in conjunction with the fact that, at the bare minimum, the main kernel exploit has been preserved in 8.1.2, bodes extremely well for the possibility of a TaiG jailbreak 8.1.2 update.

iOS 8.1.1 And Jailbreak Update Summary

To summarize, iOS 8.1.2 isn’t as big of a deal as its predecessor was - at the time it patched the only Untethered jailbreak. However, having said that, it’s recommended that any individual interested in both jailbreaking and updating avoid today’s release until it’s possible to once again jailbreak the latest public firmware, otherwise individuals who update will be locked out of jailbreaking for the time being.

Of course, as always, we’ll have complete details and updates pertaining to how the new minor 8.1.2 release, as well as future updates, will play into jailbreaking in the days, weeks and months to come - stay tuned and keep your browsers locked to Evasi0n Jailbreak.

  1. Hi there, all is going well here and ofcourse every one is sharing information, that’s truly
    excellent, keep up writing.

  2. I find that bluetooth becomes unusable after the 8.1.1. jalibreak. Anyone else see this? It makes jailbreak quite annoying. So far the 8.1.1 without TaIG is fine.

  3. Can you still upgrade to 8.1.1 and JB? (I was planning to do it this weekend.) I wouldn’t normally ask this Q after years of Apple stopping signing a previous release, but they did keep signing the prior release recently, so would like to hear confirmation one way or the other.

THANKS for the newbie question from a multi-year, multi-JBer.

  4. You can update to 8.1.2 and use the latest software from Taig v 1.2.0.1 to jailbreak I’ve done mine today no problem at all if anything it was miles quicker and by far the easiest jailbreak I’ve used to date hope this helps everyone

  7. Tried to upgrade my iOS using an 8.1 ipsw last night (no OTA upgrades installed) and use pangu to jailbreak my 5s but got a “This device isn’t eligible for the requested build” error from Apple. Does this mean Apple isn’t signing 8.1 anymore?

  8. I did the OTA update and want to restore my phone to a fresh 8.1.1 before jailbreak but when I want to restore its gonna update to 8.1.2 any work around you know of?

  9. I updated my phone to 8.1.2 apple soft ware, is there any way I can go back and jail break my phone again ? Thank you so much
    Dawn

  10. If you Accidently upgraded or need to restore you can still restore to 8.1.1 while Apple is signing it. (Just did it myself but it only lasts about a day or 2 before they stop! So hurry!!!!)

  11. SERIOUSLY?? NOW??? I’m getting the IPhone 6 in a few weeks. Like seriously???? Right now I have IPhone 5. But I want the IPhone 6 so I ordered it thinking I’d still be able to jailbreak with no problems (but with pangu if I could).

    1. It will still have the old firmware. The rate they are making them you will be receiving a until that was made probably 2 weeks ago.

  12. I had to update my iPhone for iOS 8.1.1 because I was unable to use the YouTube vids, use Internet and other applications. After updating it, the phone worked fine. Is this going to happen to me again before it needs to be updated again? I feel so confused. What should I do about this matter?

    1. What?I I didn’t know that. I avoided updating until now because some updated apps were incompatible with iOS6. I figured now would be the time to be up-to-date.

    2. I have my iPhone 4s 6.1.2 and I don’t update it .a lot apps don’t work with iOS 7 and iOS 8+ I using my iPad for the new apps updated for iOS 8.1

    1. I had similar with protube back in the days. Try to install any app from appcake for example and respring. It may help

  13. Come on Apple! Fix the stupid glitch that won’t allow the use of adapters like the camera connection kit! What a waste. Viva La Jailbreak

  14. I’m hoping we get a backup utility in place that actually works. I wasted $10 on PKGBackup and it was absolutely worthless when I updated to 8.1.1. I was expecting to just update, jailbreak and restore from the backup and the K.I.S.S. App failed to be simple at all. I ended up burning an entire day manually reapplying every tweak and hack. Can anyone recommend or has anyone used an app that actually works? It’s a massive pain having to restore from scratch every time.
