How to Jailbreak 6.1.2 On iPod Touch 5G and 4G UnTethered

How to Jailbreak iPod touch 5G and 4G UnTethered, Jailbreak 6.1.2 - As a reminder to our readers, the staff of Evasion Jailbreak decided to write this in-depth iPod touch jailbreaking reference. In spite of the explicit mention of iPod touch 4th and 5th generation support in our latest evasi0n 1.5.1 iOS 6.1.2 jailbreak tutorial, a number of our readers have questioned whether the utility actually includes support for the two iPod touch models that can upgrade to 6.1.2. In this article, we’ll cover the steps required to jailbreak either your iPod touch 4G or 5G on iOS 6 through 6.1.2, as well as the difference between an UnTethered and a Tethered jailbreak and provide links to our top Cydia tweaks articles for post-jailbreak assistance.

Jailbreak iOS 6.1.2 iPod Touch 5th and 4th Gen Using Evasi0n

Jailbreak iOS 6.1.2 UnTethered

First, before jailbreaking your iPod touch on 6.1.2, you must download the latest version of evasi0n. To do so, simply visit our Evasi0n 1.5.1 download page and click one of the corresponding links for your operating system.

Step 1: After downloading Evasi0n, run the utility on your computer and plug your iPod touch into your computer via a standard Apple 30-pin or Lightning connector. Unlike Mac OS X users, those who are using Windows-based PCs must first extract the contents of the download using the same method one would for any regular zip file.

Step 2: Simply click the Jailbreak button with your iPod touch (running 6.1.2) connected and wait for the automated process to complete. At this point, it’s crucial to refrain from interacting with your iPod touch’s buttons and/or removing the USB cable, both of which will interfere with the jailbreak procedure.

Note: If the “Jailbreak” button in evasi0n isn’t clickable, as pictured in the screenshot below, close the utility, connect via a different USB port and even try rebooting both the computer and iPod touch. Also, if you’re on Windows Vista, 7 or 8, you’ll need to exit evasion, right click on the program, set compatibility mode to “Windows XP Service Pack 2″ and run evasi0n as an administrator.

Step 3: When prompted by the Evasi0n jailbreaking tool, slide to unlock your iPod touch and tap the Jailbreak icon only once - let the jailbreak process completely finish before unplugging your iPod touch.

Step 4: After your iPod goes through a series of reboots, it should return to its typical lock screen and Cydia will automatically appear in a blank icon space on the SpringBoard.

Congratulations, you’ve now successfully jailbroken your iPod touch 5G or iPod touch 4G (5th or 4th generation iPod touch) on iOS 6.1.2, and best of all, it’s completely UnTethered. For those of you who are unfamiliar with the term, untethered simply means that the iPod touch is able to reboot without the need of a computer, whereas a Tethered jailbreak requires the assistance of a computer and a specific jailbreak tool to reboot.

If you’re at all confused by the 6.1.2 iOS jailbreak process, we recommend following iCrackUriDevice’s in-depth video tutorial, which demonstrates the jailbreak in its entirety. It’s also a good idea to follow along and get a feel for the length of the procedure if you’re worried evasi0n may be stuck at a certain stage.
