How to Jailbreak iOS 6.1 (5.2) Apple TV 2 UnTethered Using Seas0nPass [Video Tutorial]

How to Jailbreak Apple TV 5.2 iOS 6.1

The new Seas0nPass Jailbreak is compatible with the 2nd generation Apple TV running the latest 5.2 (iOS 6.1) firmware. Unfortunately, the Apple TV 3 isn’t supported in jailbreak and is, as of now, unable to be jailbroken.

Thanks to the countless hours of work on the newest Dev Team’s part, fireCore was able to successfully update their seas0npass utility - jailbreaking the Apple TV has never been easier. Seas0nPass features the same simple and straightforward GUI (graphical user interface) as before, but offers new and unparalleled full-automated functionality. If you feel the urge to expand your Apple TV 2’s capabilities, continue reading for a full and in-depth tutorial with step-by-step untethered jailbreak instructions for iOS 5.2 - also known as 6.1.

Important Jailbreak Prerequisite Note:

Before proceeding, to eliminate the possibility of encountering errors while jailbreaking, it’s best to completely restore your Apple TV 2 to iOS 5.2 through the standard Settings menu.

How to Use Seas0nPass for and Apple TV 2 iOS 5.2 (6.1) UnTethered Jailbreak

Step 1: Download SeasonPass from the download section below to ensure that you have an authentic version of the utility.

Step 2: After downloading Seas0nPass, extract the file’s contents using the same method you would for any standard zip file (OS X Mac users needn’t worry about un-zipping, as OS X automatically performs this step). Once you’ve obtained Seas0nPass, we strongly recommend that you place the files on your desktop for easy access and ease-of-use.

Step 3: Open SeasonPass and click the left option to “Create IPSW”. The utility will automatically download iOS 5.2 - 6.1 from Apple’s servers and initiate the custom firmware process.

Step 4: Once prompted, to proceed with the jailbreaking process, plug your Apple TV’s power cord into an outlet and connect the device to your computer via a standard micro USB cable.

Step 5: Immediately hold both the Pause / Play and Menu buttons on the Apple TV’s included silver remote for a total of seven seconds. The white indicator light on the front of the Apple TV should begin flashing rapidly, as soon as it does, release the buttons.

Step 6: After successfully completing the fifth step, the Apple TV will enter DFU mode and Seas0nPass will take over, initiating a fully-automated process.

Step 7: When iTunes prompts the selection of a firmware and asks whether you wish to fully restore, it’s important to let the Seas0nPass restore script work its magic. In other words, refrain from interacting with your computer during this phase.

Step 8: Leave the Apple TV connected and let iTunes finish the custom jailbreak firmware restore.

Step 9: If iTunes triggers either a 1601 or 1602 error message toward the end of the process, your Apple TV has been successfully jailbroken on 6.1 (iOS 5.2) and you can continue to final step.

Step 10: Disconnect your Apple TV 2 from your computer, plug the device into an HDTV via an HDMI cable and complete the standard setup once it boots.

I have had the same exact results. Tried process several times on both an iMac and Windows 7 laptop… please help. Thanks.

      • Marc says:

This is because there is a new version 5.2.1 (TETHERED) which was released after this walkthrough was published, and by clicking the “IPSW” button, Seas0nPass downloaded the latest version (instead of the 5.2 version in this guide). Unfortunately, the 5.2.1 is a tethered boot, meaning you need to click on the “boot tethered” button on Seas0nPass and follow the prompts. Every time the power goes out, or you restart the Apple TV, you will need to perform another tethered boot. If by chance, you had saved your 5.2 SHSH Blobs (unlikely if you got to this stage) then you could rollback your firmware from 5.2.1 to 5.2. The only thing you can do is wait for Firecore (Seas0nPass) to release a new version 5.xx which is UNTETHERED, meaning the Apple TV can restart/power off whenever, and boot back into the main screen by itself. regards,
