Shortly after Apple released their newest beta firmware, developers were greeted with great news. The iPhone Dev team has just released RedSn0w 0.9.13dev1 as a simple jailbreak for iOS 6 beta. The release was mostly anticipated as news of a potential jailbreak solution spread after Apple’s big wwdc announcement. Unfortunately, the redsnow jailbreak offers limited support for select devices. It’s also important to note that as of now this is a tethered jailbreak and specifically aimed more towards developers and advanced users. The new jailbreak is currently compatible with the following iOS devices :
Sadly, the 4s and the new iPad 3 aren’t supported in this release. However, just remember that the public version has yet to be released and support may very well be added at a later date. But, until then, enjoy this simple, easy and straightforward tutorial on how to jailbreak iOS 6 beta with Redsnow 0.9.13dev.
Important : This jailbreak will not install Cydia. While this is still a tethered jailbreak, users will not have access to the Cydia app and will need an SSH client or program to install specific apps, packages and tweaks.
Step 2 : Simply open the utility then navigate to Extras -> Select IPSW and browse for your 6.0 beta IPSW (this can be obtained through the dev program). After it’s successfully recognized your IPSW, a prompt will pop up, click OK.
Step 3 : After the prompt goes away, click the back button. Click Jailbreak and the program will automatically begin patching the firmware. One it’s done processing, you’ll reach and options screen. Just make sure that the “Install SSH” option is checked by default – as mentioned earlier, this will not install Cydia. If you’re on an iPod, you can enable battery percentage if you’d like that option. Click next to proceed with this tutorial.
Step 4 : Plug in using the usb cable and send your device into the factory Device Firmware Update (DFU) mode. This can be accomplished by holding both the Home and Power buttons together for a total of 10 seconds. After the 10 seconds is up, release the power button and continue holding the Home button for an additional 15 seconds. The screen will automatically bypass once your in DFU mode and the program will begin injecting the files and jailbreaking your iPhone or iPod.
Step 5 : The redsn0w utility will finish the process and a tethered jailbreak notification will appear, just click OK. The rest will complete the actual device itself.
Step 6 : Once the has finished, it will boot back to the standard ios lock screen. At this point, close the RedSn0w program on your computer and reopen it. Click Extras -> Select IPSW and navigate to your 6.0 beta IPSW. Now click on the “Just Boot” option to start the tethered boot stage. Set the device into DFU mode again by following the simple procedure outlined in the fourth step.
Step 7 : When you see the Pineapple boot logo, you’ve successfully complete the jailbreak and your device will reboot. It’s important to note that the last two steps in this guide will need to be completed after every reboot due to the tethered nature of the redsn0w utility.
As a final reminder, this will not install Cydia on your iphone or ipod touch. To install packages, you’ll need a SSH client with a command line. You will also need to obtain our local IP address; simply go to the Settings app -> WiFi and select the blue arrow to view your current IP. That’s all there is to it, you’ve successfully jailbroken your iOS device on 6.0! If you have any issues following the instructions, follow the simple voice guided video below.
