8.4.1 Beta 2 Released, Will TaiG Jailbreak iOS 8.4.1 Upon Release?

iOS 8.4.1 beta 2 Released by Apple, will TaiG Jailbreak iOS 8.4.1 Untethered? - Today, without any prior indication, roughly two weeks and two days following its initial seed, Apple issued iOS 8.4.1 beta 2 for developers. iOS 8.4.1, being the firmware that’s expected to patch the TaiG jailbreak (though a miracle could still happen - see video below for details), is an extremely minor update likely featuring bug fixes and optimizations. Currently, those who update to the beta seed from a jailbroken device on iOS 8.4 will forfeit their Untethered TaiG 8.4 jailbreak, as the latest Untethered utility isn’t compatible with the beta firmware, regardless of whether Apple closed TaiG’s exploits in 8.4.1 beta 2. As of now, any release timeframe would be based on conjecture and speculation, though seeing as the firmware appears as though it’s a very minor update, we likely won’t see an iOS 8.4.1 beta 3 release prior to 8.4.1’s public availability. To learn more about the new iOS 8.4.1 beta 2 release and whether we’ll be able to jailbreak 8.4.1 post iOS 8.4, continue reading past the break.

iOS 8.4.1 Beta 2: TaiG to Jailbreak 8.4.1?

Starting with the firmware itself, iOS 8.4.1 beta 2 isn’t available for download via Apple’s dev center like its predecessor is. Curiously, those interested in updating to the beta firmware must first install iOS 8.4.1 beta 1 and then make the leap to beta 2 via Apple’s over-the-air (OTA) update option - suggesting today’s release is very minute in the changes it offers.

Furthermore, unlike past beta versions of iOS (including 9.0 beta 4), iOS 8.4.1’s changelog has yet to be publicized by Apple - i.e. no one is entirely aware of what’s changed from iOS 8.4 to 8.4.1. What’s more, the release link inside of the Settings app for the 8.4.1 beta 1 to beta 2 update screen simply contains a link that points directly to 8.4’s ‘Release Notes’.

Having said that, without too much conjecture, it’s highly probable that Apple will use iOS 8.4.1 to not only correct issues the company introduced with last month’s release of Apple Music in iOS 8.4 but also to patch (or close) the TaiG Untethered iOS 8.4 jailbreak!

iOS 8.4.1 Jailbreak: Three Scenarios

iOS 8.4.1 JailbreakHowever, regardless of how small, the possibility does exist that Apple will leave the vulnerabilities utilized by TaiG unattended to in iOS 8.4.1, allowing the public to jailbreak the latest firmware until iOS 9 is available this fall (like they did with last year’s 7.1.x). Also, on the topic of jailbreaking, there are three plausible scenarios as to how 8.4.1 will effect TaiG; for an in-depth rundown, either visit our coverage on the first 8.4.1 beta (here) or watch the above video from YouTuber iCrackUriDevice.

Additionally, it should be noted that TaiG has yet to respond to our inquiry as to whether the group has plans for iOS 8.4.1 or if the current beta release even patches their utility to begin with.
