Jailbreak iOS 8.1.3 And iOS 8.2 TaiG, PP Mac And PC iOS 8.3 Guide [Updated]

Jailbreak iOS 8.1.3

Jailbreak iOS 8.2 Untethered Update; TaiG or Pangu, How to Jailbreak 8.2 and 8.3 Possibility - As we progress forward into 2015, a question that’s gnawing at the back of mind of the jailbreak world as a whole is whether there will be a solution to jailbreak iOS 8.2. In light of the fact that the iOS 8.1.2 Untethered TaiG and PP jailbreak utilities were officially patched by iOS 8.1.3, as well as iOS 8.2 for that matter, and that downgrades from either firmware to 8.1.2 are no longer possible (Apple closed the signing window for the jailbreakable firmware), we must turn our attention toward the future: iOS 8.2, iOS 8.3 and even iOS 8.4! Last year, with iOS 7 and even before that (the same applies to iOS 6 and iOS 5), Apple’s iOS releases didn’t surpass 7.1.x. Now, as the company’s line of products evolve, not only have we’ve reached iOS 8.2, but 8.3 is currently available in its third public developer beta stage and, as with several accurately predicted iterations of iOS 8 that preceded it, iOS 8.4 is rumored to make an appearance later this year. Having said that, what about jailbreaking for the iPhone 6, iPhone 6 Plus, iPad Air 2, iPad mini 3 and older iOS 8-capable devices? Will there be an iOS 8.2 jailbreak or even future utilities to jailbreak past the forthcoming firmware? For an in-depth examination of what the future holds in store for jailbreakers, as well as information on the latest major iOS 8 release, being iOS 8.2, jump past the break!

In a surprising turn of events as of late, in addition to the jailbreak community picking up development as the sole result of the primary developers shifting to the new Pangu and TaiG dev teams, Apple has also substantially stepped up their game with the number of iOS releases.

New iOS 8.3 jailbreak, it’s what’s next:

While a sizable portion of jailbreakers will be seeking a new solution to jailbreak iOS 8.2 untethered and, in turn, obtain Cydia (a requirement for obtaining third-party iOS 8 tweaks in today’s jailbreak world), it’s crucial that one of the jailbreak dev teams first achieve root access post iOS 8.1.3. Once either of the two active groups can accomplish the aforementioned feat, being either TaiG or Pangu, development on a new jailbreak tool for the masses can begin. Also, while an updated TaiG 1.3.0 jailbreak 8.2 tool does indeed exist, the utility is exclusive to the first two beta iterations of iOS 8.2, as TaiG’s original exploits remain unpatched in said beta IPSWs.

Jailbreak iOS 8.2 - The 2015 Jailbreak Update

Jailbreak iOS 8.2 TaiG Pangu

Up until last year, as alluded to above, new utilities on the jailbreak scene were born as the product and hard labor of U.S. and European-based developers, namely those who comprised the evad3rs. Furthermore, until a group who most would consider foreign (Pangu) made their grand entrance into the world of jailbreaking, the public would be lucky to receive two major jailbreaks a year - one for each sufficient iteration of iOS.

However, with their first release, Pangu began to reshape what it means to jailbreak and now, the public is starting to become accustomed to being able to jailbreak the latest version of iOS available, but can Pangu and TaiG keep up?

Ensuing the release of iOS 8, Pangu issued the first iOS 8 jailbreak utility in the form of Pangu8 to jailbreak up to 8.1 before Apple pushed out the company’s minor iOS 8.1.1 release, effectively patching the tool. Shortly thereafter, TaiG promptly inserted themselves into the lives of jailbreakers the world over by releasing a utility capable of jailbreaking not only iOS 8.1.1, but also 8.1.2 which would be released later to rectify a minor ringtone complication.

After having survived the release of iOS 8.1.2, TaiG wasn’t as lucky when it came time for iOS 8.1.3 to bring additional improvements and, in turn, a patch for the vulnerabilities the group employed to jailbreak iOS 8.1.x untethered. That essentially brings us up to speed on the recent developments in jailbreaking - while it remains possible to jailbreak iOS 8.1.2 via TaiG version 1.2.1 or PP, it’s impossible to jailbreak 8.1.3 utilizing the current jailbreak tools.

Jailbreak 8.2: The Likelihood Of New iOS 8 Jailbreaks In 2015

The above video from iCrackUriDevice explains the potential of jailbreaking on iOS 8.2, as we move to iOS 8.3 and beyond, especially (and primarily) concerning iOS 8.3.

That being said, as previously stated, the latest TaiG 1.2.1 Untethered Jailbreak still functions on the following iOS 8-based devices, as does the TaiG 1.3.0 jailbreak utility:

  • iPhone 6
  • iPhone 6 Plus
  • iPod Touch 5
  • 5 iPhone series: 5s and 5c
  • iPhone 4s (all revisions)
  • iPad Air 2, 1, iPad mini 3, iPad Mini 2, 1, iPad 4, 3

In addition to supporting the above devices, TaiG operates with the following iterations of iOS 8:

  • iOS 8.0.x
  • iOS 8.1.x, including 8.1.1 and 8.1.2
  • iOS 8.2 beta 1 and beta 2
  • iOS 8.1.3 to iOS 8.2 - not yet supported

While neither the current TaiG nor PP jailbreaks are able to jailbreak new iOS 8 versions past iOS 8.1.2 (save the 8.2 beta 2 TaiG 1.3.0 tool), i.e. they cannot jailbreak 8.2 or even iOS 8.1.3, that’s not to say they won’t.

iOS 8.1.2 Jailbreak And TaiG’s Jailbreak iOS 8.2 Promise To The Public

Back in November, the TaiG dev team promised the public “surprises” for every significant iOS release. However, the group has since removed said message from their official website. So what does that mean, does it suggest TaiG won’t release another jailbreak? Far from it!

As of now, aside from Pangu (who are a group completely separate from anyone else), TaiG utilizes a single developer named XN. In light of that fact, developing a jailbreak becomes exponentially more difficult, as it would normally take a group working in their free time months to accomplish such a task.

Thankfully though, there is a bright side, prior to iOS 8.1.3 patching the jailbreak, TaiG confirmed that they have additional exploits, as well as another method, to jailbreak iOS 8.2 that has yet to be disclosed to Apple - i.e. we may very well see an iOS 8.2 jailbreak shortly following the firmware’s release!

iOS 8.2 Jailbreak Only Functions On Betas 1 And 2

Update 1: On February 23rd, 2015, TaiG issued a new jailbreak tool capable of functioning on iOS 8.2 beta 1 and 2. However, the aforementioned tool cannot jailbreak beyond 8.2 beta 2, as it makes use of TaiG’s original exploits, which remain unpatched in said beta firmwares.

Update 2: As of last week (February 27th), Apple effectively stopped signing iOS 8.2 beta 1 and 2 for registered developers, i.e. the jailbreak outlined above will only act as a solution for those of you already running either beta release. Stay tuned for additional updates concerning the creation of a new iOS 8.2 jailbreak and ensure that you watch the above video for audible representation of these updates.

Update 3: On Monday, March 9th, following Apple’s Spring Forward event, Apple released iOS 8.2 to the general public. The new firmware includes a number of bug fixes, performance enhancements and, more prominently, adds an Apple Watch app to the iPhone 5, iPhone 5c, iPhone 5s, iPhone 6 and the iPhone 6 Plus. For a complete list of changes in iOS 8.2, be sure to navigate to our coverage on the firmware.

Will An iOS 8.3 Jailbreak Be The Future?

Update 4: Following the aforementioned event, Apple seeded iOS 8.3 beta 3 to the public last week, will we receive a jailbreak for 8.2 or instead iOS 8.3? Only time will tell, stay tuned for more updates.

So will TaiG hold true to their initial promise and jailbreak iOS 8.2 or will the group wait for Apple to release iOS 8.3 before retrofitting TaiG? Lock your browsers to Evasi0n Jailbreak for complete updates on iOS 8 jailbreaking in 2015.
