New iOS 7 Jailbreak Screenshot Likely A Failbreak, iOS 6.1.3 Remains Unjailbroken

New iOS 7 Jailbreak Screenshot Most Likely A Failbreak
iOS 6.1.3 Jailbreak iOS 7In a followup to p0sixninja’s recent confirmation of a future iOS 7 jailbreak utility, famed iOS developer and hacker Ryan Petrich published a screenshot of his iPod touch 5th generation jailbroken on iOS 7 beta. Unfortunately, as we’ve mentioned on Jailbreak Evasi0n before, and as p0sixninja validated over the weekend, neither the evad3rs nor p0sixninja will released an iOS 6.1.3 jailbreak. Preserving the previous and rare exploits required to create a jailbreak for iOS 7 is far too important to employ them in a 6.1.3 and 6.1.4 jailbreak utility.

Ensuring that the public will have access to an iOS 7 jailbreak on all devices is instrumental in the evolution of the jailbreak community. In the screenshot posted by Ryan Petrich, the developer’s iPod touch appears to have Activator (a widely-popular jailbreak extension that Petrich ironically created) installed with the famed “System Version Too New” popup message.

Jailbreak iOS 7 Proof

What does this mean for the future of jailbreaking? As of now, the iOS 7 jailbreak that Petrich is likely using is dubbed a failbreak. The term “failbreak” was, of course, coined to refer to a jailbreak that simply cannot be released to the public due to legal issues and the requirement of an Apple iOS Developer account - the two issues go hand in hand.

If Petrich is indeed employing a failbreak to effectivly gain root access and, in turn, jailbreak his iPod touch on iOS 7, he likely did so to test and modify the number of jailbreak tweaks he’s created over the years.

However, even if Petrich is making use of a failbreak, it’s possible that the hacker could have used new and unreleased exploits for further testing purposes.
